Because all of our dentistry is focused on prevention, we consider your regular dental exams and screenings to be one of the most important parts of your dentistry. We encourage having a dental checkup every 6 months because we know that when damage, decay or disease is caught early enough, it can be treated far less invasively and often even reversed.
Having a dental appointment every 6 months can,
During your exam at Wildhorse Dental, Dr. Miller will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other possible health issues. Dr. Miller will also take X-rays to find out what is happening under the surface to make sure that any unseen issues can be treated if need be.
During your cleaning, your dental hygienist will begin by inspecting the surface of your teeth and the quality of existing fillings to determine if you have any cavities or any restorations that need to be made.
Next, your hygienist will use a set of tools to gently remove any plaque/tartar that has built up over time. The hygienist will floss your teeth, and use a compound to polish your teeth, and may apply fluoride to strengthen and protect your teeth. Your cleaning shouldn’t be painful and if you have any anxiety about the process don’t be afraid to voice your concerns, as our hygienists want to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.
If either the hygienist or Dr. Miller finds any signs of tooth decay they will make some recommendations about adjusting your brushing and flossing habits, as well as watching out for certain foods and drinks. If the situation looks more serious they may recommend other treatments.
